I was thinking... I still remember my first guitar. It was a Suzuki acoustic guitar which was a hand-me-down from my pop. And it's still alive now... but unfortunately it's with Charis... unfortunately because she forgets to give it back to me all the time !! haha...
Next came along this RM300 Santana brand guitar which was also ok, given that i could only play a little back then. It lasted for about a year before my friend, Ee Piew (who tries to masquerade around as Jeff), decided to do be goofy and broke it's neck. Ugh...
Next up, it'll be the RM500 Cadenza that my pop got for himself but i kinda stole from him anyway. It was a small body one but it was really nice to play. Real good one... for the price, of course. Played it everywhere, in church, in camps and such...
Somewhere between that, came my Fender Squier. A nice little thing which cost about RM 600. This was a really nice story. I was coming home from Youth group one day to find my dad playing this really loud red guitar. And guess what? That was my Christmas present for that year. Yup, I still have it today and upgraded it a lil bit.
*why does it feel like i've type this before somewhere?* Got pickups from a Mexican Strat (thanks to Ju!). Replaced the tuners and now it's pretty sweeeeet.
Right now, the pride of my guitars is a very nice Takamine AN-45. Whaaaa? It's a solid wood all round guitar. Very nice indian rosewood back and sides... The back grain is really beautiful. Instead of going straight down. It forms an ellipse of sorts centering on the middle line. The top is cedar which is soft and beautiful, acoustically and aesthetically. No inlays on the fretboard but none needed. It's great just by it self. It has a nice Abalone rosette though. The binding is some cream material mixed with beautiful wood. And all this would be mine if it wasn't for my mom consenting to a moment of sensible madness to get it for me as a studying-cum-many-years-christmas present. Thanks, Mom. :) Ok ok... i promise pictures to be up sometime soon. hehehe... depends on whether I can get a good camera for it. :D
Now... my target is an electric guitar. I already have a very nice 3 single coil one in my Frankensquier so the next one is a dual humbucker monster...I hope... hahaha... I was checking out
Gibson SGs and saw a very nice new one at Woh Fatt. BUT.. it was 3.6k! not worth it. Could have gotten one from the 'States but nah.. too risky. Though of an
Ibanez JS1000 Satriani Signature but then again... I'd have to get it from, of all places, Bentley... double yucks. Then I read articles from
Ed Roman's Commercial site and they were pretty 'informative' though kinda one sided. Anyway, now i've settled for a double octaver, archtop guitar. What's within my reach? Check out
this one out. Really nice Quilted Maple top and it's double octave! The plus is that i think i can get it for a deal!! :)
Now to start dreaming about guitars again...
